Quality Competition Makes Garden Plain A Stronger Team!

Garden Plain has always enjoyed playing in the Annual Adolph Rupp Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Halstead Chamber of Commerce and Halstead High School always put on a first class tournament. Even though we are usually one of the smaller schools, we know that the quality competition will make us a better team. This year's tournament lineup looks to be very evenly matched and should make for an exciting week of basketball.

This has been a unique and exciting year for Garden Plain basketball. Gone from last year are Coach Jerry Gerber with over 600 career wins and 7 Seniors. The Owls are led by a new coach and a talented group of newcomers. Two players, Christopher Pauly and Landon Hoheisel, are the only returners from last years 3A State Tournament team and look to lead the Owls back to the post season.

Coming into the tournament, we have a record of 6-3, and the three losses are by a combined eleven points. We have a competitive group of players and we feel like we have a good opportunity to win each contest. Two of our three losses are to Rupp Tournament opponents, (Inman by 2 and Cheney by 7) so we’ll look forward to a possible rematch with either of those opponents.

We are looking forward another great tournament in Halstead!
